Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean, located approximately 2,000 kilometres off the southeastern coast of Africa, east of Madagascar. It comprises the main island along with the islands of Rodrigues, Agaléga, and Saint Brandon.
The capital is Port Louis, which is also the island’s largest port and its main commercial and financial hub, as well as one of Mauritius’s most popular tourist destinations.
Travelling to Mauritius does not require a visa for citizens of Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries. Visitors are permitted to stay visa-free for up to 90 days.
The official currency of Mauritius is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR).
Mauritius is generally considered a high-cost destination. Prices vary depending on accommodation level and season. During the low season (June to September), 5-star resort rates range from SAR 800 to SAR 4,000 per night. During the peak season (October to January), rates range from SAR 2,500 to SAR 6,000 per night. Markets and activity venues are not significantly affected by the season.
Being south of the equator, Mauritius has variable weather. Summer (October to February) sees temperatures ranging from 25°C to 30°C — ideal for water sports and beach lovers. Winter (June to September) is cooler, with temperatures between 18°C and 25°C, making it perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
